Given the amount of love out there right now for all things NEVERWHERE, I thought I should point out that Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab have a Neverwhere line of scents. Smell like the Marquis de Carabas (A splash of bay rum, leather, dusty black wool, massoia bark, and opium residue), or like Door, or like a Floating Market (A cacophony of curious scents: copaiba balsam, petitgrain, citrus rind, sinicuichi accord, betel nut, wasabi root, coconut palm, and wattleseed layered atop innumerable strange herbs, spices, and woods.) or Night’s Bridge or one of twelve different magical wonderful scents.
Check it out at http://www.blackphoenixalchemylab.com/londonbelow.html
And the best bit of it is the scents benefit the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. This is a good thing.
There aren’t a lot of photographs of me aged 23 as a starving young journalist in London. But I just noticed that I had this in the office here, and scanned it from my British Library Reading Room card.
I was not even wearing black yet. Even the leather jacket was grey.
So woke up from a text from my shirt guy saying “Why don’t we do a mini road trip meet-up tour?” We would do a little meet up tour around the US and we wouldn’t charge a cent. We would throw some apparel in the trunk and that would be our gas money and if you want to donate some Reese’s I would…
Adopted a puppy today. Meet Tardis! She is a boxer mixed with german Shepard. Wasn’t planned at all but since the girlfriend couldn’t part with Kreacher. I’m excited for this new pal to keep me and Starscream company in my travels.
In the book of John 21:25 it says, “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.”
This can also be said of my friend and roommate, Olan. The guy has the most charitable heart I’ve ever seen. The only income he makes is from his shirts and freelance work, and so, of course, he decided to give a sizable portion of his solitary income to ricebowls.org - an organization dedicated to providing food to hungry children.
If a movie is coming out, Olan will have already bought tickets for me and his girlfriend for IMAX, before I even knew it was coming out.
When I told him I was planning on going to visit my special lady, Melinda, he asked me, “How much is it going to cost?”
I responded, “It’s like $150. I think I can afford it in a month or so.”
Five seconds later, he drops $150 in cash on my desk and tells me to have fun.
His response when I speechlessly attempt to thank him has always been the same, “No problem, man.”
However, tonight he made the most charitable contribution I’ve seen from him. He invested in my future. He spent a very large chunk of his hard earned money on a piece of software that I’ve been eyeing for the last few months that will allow me to begin recording high-quality instrumentation. This is literally the oldest dream I have - to compose and release an orchestral album, and he just made it come true.
“Merry Christmas,” he said, along with, “No problem, man.”
I have no idea how to respond or what to say, but I just wanted to share this little piece of the goofy guy you all know, so that you can all see the size of his big goofy heart. Thankfully, he left, so now I can cry a little bit.
The only time I’ve been this blessed was when Shawna changed my life with a brand new DSLR camera.
No words can properly express my gratitude for my friends. No words.
Instead, I will vow to create the best work I can, and release some films and music that will do justice to their selflessness. That is all.
